In Soviet Union women participating in WWII were erased from history, remaining as the occasional anecdote of a female sniper or simply as medical staff or, at best, radio specialists. The word “front-line girl” (frontovichka) became a terrible insult, synonimous to “whore”. Hundreds thousand of girls who went to war to protect their homeland with their very lives, who came back injured or disabled, with medals for valor, had to hide it to protect themselves from public scorn.

This has always happened in history: Women do something important. Then they get shamed for it (so nobody will talk about it) and it gets erased from history.

And then certain men will say: “Women suck, they’ve never done anything important.”

Look into history and learn that women have played a far greater role then douches (present and past) wanted you to know.

Josephine Baker, later known as ‘Bronze Venus’, ‘Black Pearl’ and ‘Créole Goddess’ was born in America in 1906 and later moved to France to become a singer, dancer, and actress. She was the first African-American woman to star in a major motion picture, and became famous worldwide.

Though she grew up as a maid in wealthy white households she eventually became an exotic dancer in France, famously appearing in next to no clothing, and became a French citizen in 1937.

Ernest Hemingway referred to Baker as ‘the most sensational woman anyone ever saw’ and she received approximately 1500 marriage proposals in her life time. She became a muse for Hemingway, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Pablo Picasso, and Christian Dior. She had a variety of exotic pets including a cheetah named Chiquita, a chimpanzee named Ethel, a pig named Albert, a snake named Kiki, a goat, a parrot, parakeets, fish, three cats, and seven dogs.

When WWII broke out, Baker became a volunteer spy for France, and assisted the French Resistance by smuggling messages written in invisible ink on sheet music. She made great efforts to aid those in danger of enemy attack, sent Christmas presents to French soldiers, and smuggled information she gathered in Spain back to France by pinning notes containing the information on the inside of her underwear. She was awarded the Medal of Resistance with Rosette and later named a Chevalier of the Legion of Honour.

Baker also aided many civil rights movements by refusing to perform to segregated audiences and storming out of a club in Manhattan with actress Grace Kelly after she was refused service. She worked with the NAACP and spoke at a Washington march alongside Martin Luther King Jr. as the only official female speaker. Baker was actually asked by Martin Luther King Jr.’s widow to take his place as leader of the American Civil Rights Movement, but Baker declined on the grounds her twelve adopted children ‘were too young to lose their mother’.

Baker died in 1975, four days after her final show, attended by such names as Mick Jagger, Shirley Bassey, and Liza Minnelli.

Oh and she was queer and had a relationship with Frida Kahlo. All around badass.

I’d like a movie about her life too, please.

Having an alternate viewpoint does not necessarily diminish intelligence. If I said that Jesus rode dinosaurs on a flat, 6,000 year old earth, you might have a case. But even if I was wrong about what I said, I don’t think it makes me a bad person, nor an unintelligent one. Perhaps if I give you insight into how I came to my opinion.

Most of my closest friends are women. I didn’t do that on purpose, it just kind of happened that way. They tell me about daily accounts of sexism, misogyny, and harassment. Men in their workplace disregarding their opinions. Men on the street making explicit catcalls. One of my friends signed up for OkCupid and for no other reason than she is attractive, she got a few hundred messages asking her for sex. Those were the first messages people sent. They didn’t even try to break the ice. There was no, “Do you like mudkips?” They just went straight to (paraphrasing) “I would like to intermingle our genitals. If you don’t want to, you are a slut.”

I look at the youtube comments of any female personality and they are littered with men making salacious comments. I have a friend who sometimes points out sexism on her blog. When I did it… I got comments like yours. “I’m disappointed in you.” When she does it… she gets called every female pejorative. She gets rape and death threats. Why so polite to me and so evil to her? It seems even people’s outrage is sexist.

I can count the number of times I have been victimized by misandry on my vagina. But my friends have to put up with this crap all the time. And most of the time they have no choice but to swallow it and try and go about their day. I certainly have a lot of my own problems, but I have never had to deal with anything like that.

My opinion is based on my experiences and the accounts of my dearest friends. I know I was a bit general and anecdotal in my original post, but It is the conclusion I came to and I stand by it.

I wasn’t going to post this but since I’ve been posting all sorts of silly things lately.

This is why I find the Fermi Paradox so fucking offensive in it’s stupidity. A bunch of dumb fucking apes who have just barely kindled their grasp of technology and sentience are no fucking authority on interstellar life. Humans are barely, just barely scratching the surface on technology that isn’t based on 2,000 year old reinventions of the same mechanics. A people who still use fire to cook food and result to “cut out the bad stuff” as a pillar of medicine yet are incapable of imagining he many different mens of which matter can be transported across great spaces have no claim to “authority” in science.

Humans are so fucking primitive they still get scared about who’s genitals are different. People who can barely move past what is between their legs culturally are in no position to make bold statements regarding the cosmos.

Even humans can observe that chemicals and matter form very predictable patterns. Fractals for example. Adding for other variables such as the fact that there is the possibility of silicone based life, the odds are overwhelmingly in favor of mass groups of intelligent life.

And because a few apes “aint never seen it with their eyes” is clear and undeniable evidence to dismiss the idea of life throughout the cosmos. Humanity is so egotistical I can’t even comprehend it.
